The Transportation Office is responsible for the transportation of all eligible Meriden students to their assigned schools. In accordance with State Department of Education guidelines, the Meriden Public Schools provides transportation to students attending public and parochial schools. Eligibility is determined by the following criteria:

  • Elementary school students (includes kindergarten) who, if not provided transportation, would have a walking distance to the school to which they are normally assigned, of more than one (1) mile*.
  • Middle school students who, unless provided transportation, would have a walking distance to school of more than 1½ miles*.
  • High school students who, if not provided transportation, would have a walking distance to school of more than two (2) miles*.

*Mileage is measured from the entrance of housing complexes to the districted school.  Transportation is provided to students placed in appropriate educational settings outside the Meriden Public Schools. Inquiries regarding eligibility should be directed to the school principal of the assigned school.

The Transportation Office also oversees and promotes safety on buses and on all school grounds.
