Mark A. Hughes
President of the Board of Education
Mr. Hughes was elected to his first term on the Meriden Board of Education in November of 2003 and was elected Board President in December of 2007. He served on the Transportation Committee, the Community Outreach Committee, the Alternative Disciplines Committee, and was the Chairperson of the Student Dress Code Committee. Mark is currently the Chairperson of the Community Health Center, Inc. Advisory Committee.
Mark brings to the Board his years of experience of working with children and teens, as well as his social work background. He is employed as a school social worker with experience at the high school and elementary levels. Mr. Hughes believes that in order to be an effective policy maker, elected officials need to be open to input from all those involved; parents, teachers, administrators, other elected officials, and especially the students. Only with information from each of these groups can an informed and educated common sense decision be made.
