Unit 6 Measuring Length with Non-Standard Units

In Unit 6 students will:

  • Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two objects indirectly by using a third object.
  • Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps.

By the end of Unit 6 your child should be able to answer the following questions:

  • How can we compare the lengths of different objects?
  • How can we measure objects using non-standard measurement tools?
  • How do we describe the comparison of different lengths?

The following videos support some of the topics in Unit 6.
